TAFE Libraries Australia (formerly NWGTLS) is a peak national library group that actively promotes an integrated approach to the delivery of library and information services which advances and supports VET outcomes and the emerging changes in learning and teaching.

Context

Library and Information Services are an integral part of the learning and research process in vocational education and training. Lifelong learning is promoted and encouraged when student and staff are supported by a well managed and appropriate learning and research resources, the information literacy skills to utilise them and by the provision of, and ready access to, information, services and facilities.

Key focus areas:

  1. Provide expert and informed advice on TAFE Libraries to relevant bodies
  2. Monitor trends and developments in learning strategies and information technologies
  3. Develop and disseminate national guidelines and performance measures for TAFE Libraries
  4. Collect and distribute national TAFE Library statistics
  5. Provide strategies on the development of information literacy skills within the VET sector
  6. Promote the sharing of resources information and resources, including consortia
  7. Encourage and support the development of best practice in TAFE libraries
  8. Promote future directions for TAFE libraries
  9. Promote discussion of library and information issues in the VET sector
  10. Propose and manage research projects that related to the work undertaken by information professional within the TAFE
  11. Encourage cross sectorial library co-operation
