Director’s Report 1910

Several new classes have been added during the year, and the Central School has continued to prove of great assistance in providing good material for the Technical School.

A certain number of youths now come direct from one school to the other, but there are still many youths in the district who fail to take advantage of the opportunities of gaining instruction, and it is hoped that the Continuation classes which are to be established will be the means of inducing a large number of these to become regular students at the Technical School.

The business men of the district, by giving employment to students trained at the School, continue to show their interest in the class work. Several students have gained good positions and past students have expressed to the Secretary their appreciation of the tuition they have received. The thanks of the school are due to the Midland Junction Municipal Council for their liberal donation of 2 pound two shillings to the prize fund, and also to the officials of the Midland Railway Company for their substantial interest in the School. The proprietor of the Swan Express is also deserving of thanks for his cordial co-operation in at all times placing prominently before the public the advantages to be derived from attendance at the School.

The classes are held at the State School, but the seating accommodation, which is unsuitable for the senior students has interfered with the proper progress of the work. The Technical classes require classrooms with suitable seating and desk accommodation, and when this can be provided in the State School, or in a separate building, very much better results will follow.

The number of students averaged 60 males and 20 females.
